In Memory of Paula Wasko

Paula Wasko passed away on November 8 2020. She was the ultimate outdoors woman and will be dearly missed. Paula was from Indiana and would regularly attended the BOW Weekends in Kentucky. We would always laugh together on how packed her little car was with so much fishing gear and other outdoor gear for BOW Weekends! She would make everyone feel welcome at the events and would always encourage everyone! The Fish and Wildlife Foundation has created a scholarship in memorable of Paula. These donations will help women in financial need so they can attend upcoming BOW events. Thank you for your donation. - Olivia Dangler, BOW Coordinator

Paula attended a kayak class Danielle Dietz and I were co-teaching. I don’t think Paula had ever been out in a kayak before. She watched with interest as we took the class through the basics of paddling technique, had lots of good questions. She spent a fair amount of time asking about personal floatation devices, especially those for fishing and what gear one needed with them to fish. The next year, Paula came back with her new PFD. She was so excited to share what she had gotten and put together for her kit. It was really a nice set up. It was so fun to watch through the year her Facebook posts about getting into the sport, as well as other outdoor activities. She continued to attend BOW workshops and add to her collection of hobbies over the years. Always with the same enthusiasm as her skills sets expanded. I know how much I will miss her smile and eagerness to learn and share with others. - Jean Marie Suggs, BOW instructor and participant

I met her in 2015 too, that was my first BOW. She came up to me because I looked like someone from another state’s BOW that she had been to and we hit it off. I basically don’t know anyone at that event so it was so nice to be befriended within an hour of checking in. I think it was her first year at Kentucky too. She was such a great person and had so much enthusiasm for the outdoors. We didn’t talk a whole lot between BOW events, but we always went looking for each other after checking in. I’m really going to miss her this fall. - Denise Young BOW instructor and participant
